ROLE, in partnership with its Ukrainian counterparts, has launched a court monitoring project focused on the work of Ukraine’s anti-corruption courts. The initiative aims to assess the observance of European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) standards in anti-corruption proceedings and to identify areas where further improvements may be beneficial.
The project seeks to contribute to strengthening the rule of law and ensuring that judicial proceedings fully comply with European human rights standards. The findings and recommendations generated through the monitoring process will support ongoing efforts to enhance judicial practice and align it with European best practices. In this regard, the project is also expected to assist Ukraine in meeting relevant requirements associated with its status as a candidate for membership in the European Union.
To mark the launch of the project, ROLE experts visited Ukraine and together with its Ukrainian partners held a series of meetings with key judicial and institutional stakeholders. These included discussions with representatives of the High Anti-Corruption Court, the Supreme Court, and other relevant actors involved in the administration of justice and anti-corruption efforts. The meetings provided an opportunity to present the objectives and methodology of the project and to exchange views on current challenges and developments within the Ukrainian judicial system.
Through close cooperation with Ukrainian partners and institutions, the project aims to promote transparency, accountability, and adherence to fair trial standards. ROLE believes that the initiative will make an important contribution to Ukraine’s ongoing judicial reforms and its broader pathway towards European integration.
